WETshop

WETSHOP (Wetland Education Teacher Workshop) is a week-long, dynamic teacher workshop that allows twenty teachers each year to work with educators/scientists to learn about Louisiana coastal wetlands, issues and history. The focus of the summer workshop is to create wetland stewards of teachers in order for them to educate co-workers and students in their home parishes about coastal land loss.  Teachers spend a portion of each day in the field learning about maritime forests, fisheries management, barrier island beach ecology, coastal restoration projects, birdlife, marsh and swamp habitats, the role of oil and gas in Louisiana and marine organisms.

An additional stipend is available during the academic school year if teachers implement a wetland stewardship project with their students, colleagues and/or community.  WETSHOP has the potential to impact 40,000 students each year through these informed teachers.

Since 2005, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation has continued to support this important coastal stewardship project through grant funding from the Barataria Terrebonne National Estuary Program.

- WETSHOP 2023 is scheduled for July 9-14, 2023. For updates and registration, visit www.wlf.louisiana.go/for-teachers.
