get out & fish!
ldwf’s community fishing program
The Get Out and Fish! program offers an opportunity to partner with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to make fishing accessible in community parks with suitable waterbodies.
How It Works
Waterbodies located in close proximity to a city or town and are easily accessible by the general public are reviewed by LDWF biologists for participation in the program. The waterbody must have potential for development of a quality fishery, good bank access, adequate parking, and restroom facilities.
LDWF biologists will provide technical assistance and recommendations regarding proper maintenance and fishing management at the location. They will also work with each participating organization to determine the amount of fish to be purchased for stocking. The two most commonly stocked species are channel catfish and rainbow trout.
LDWF will offer an opportunity for a Get Out and Fish! event to promote the initial stocking of fish at each new community fishing location.
